How to Generate a Certificate

  1. Log into the application through Internet Explorer.
  2. Whether in the Data Room or the Data Room Selector, click your username in the top-left corner of the web browser, near the logout link. The Profile and Settings dialog window should display.



  1. On the right side of the dialog box is the Show me... drop-down list. From the list select Client Certificates from the list.


  1. The popup’s subtitle should change from Overview to Client Certificates. Under this subtitle the text ‘Certificate No certificate registered’ should be there. Next to this text is the link Add. Click Add. The Add Certificate dialog window will appear.



  1. In the Data Room Certificate area, click Create Certificate. The Data Room Certificate dialog window is displayed.


  1. In the Key Length (Bytes) drop-down list, select the key length for the certificate. Note: The higher the key length, the higher the protection.
  2. When you hit the Create Certificate link from step five, it triggers a PIN to be sent. When you receive this PIN it can be entered in the ‘Enter security code’ text box. 
  3. Click Next. 
  4. The Create and Set Up Certificate (Download Certificate) dialog window is displayed.


  1. Note down the password that is shown next to Password. You need the password to install the certificate on your computer.
  2. Click Download.
  3. At the bottom of the browser page, in a popup bar, it will ask what you wish to do with the download. Select the Open option. 


  1. The Certificate Import Wizard is displayed.


  1. Continue the installation for Internet Explorer and, if required, also for Firefox.



To install the certificate for Internet Explorer:

  1. In the Certificate Import Wizard, click Next.
  2. Check the proposed certificate filename in the Filename field. The filename of the certificate shows the generation date and time and has the .pfx extension, e.g. 2015_03_05__10_44_25__6HSAEY.pfx. If necessary, adjust the filename and directory.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Next to Password, enter the password you noted down earlier.
  5. Specify this information:
    • Enable high security for the private key: If this option is enabled, you have to enter the corresponding password every time you are using the private key. This option should be enabled, if you want to use this certificate to log into the Data Room as well.
    • Mark keys as exportable: If this option is enabled, you can also install the certificate on another computer.
    • Include all extended properties: Make sure this option is enabled.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Leave the settings for certificate storage as proposed and click Next.
  8. Check your settings and click Finish.
  9. Confirm the subsequent message with OK.
    A dialog window confirming the successful certificate import is displayed.
  10. Click OK.
    The certificate is now installed for Internet Explorer.
  11. Next, test the certificate, or install the certificate for Firefox first.
